PRENUPTIAL & POSTNUPTIAL AGREEMENTS

Prenuptial agreements can be contentious, and require careful handling so as not to cause hostility between people who are soon to be married. They can involve characterization of assets and debts, pre-setting of limits on spousal support in the event of a divorce, and planning for how the parties will handle their finances during marriage, among other issues. Usually, the goal of a prenup is to determine ahead of time what will occur if the parties divorce - which gives them a sense of certainty that allows for much greater peace during their marriage.

A postnuptial agreement is any agreement done during the marriage rather than before the wedding, and can involve any of the same issues dealt with by a prenuptial agreement.
